Patterson Hood and Mike Cooley have always written Southern rock with literary precision, and *A Blessing and A Curse* finds the Truckers pushing into darker, more atmospheric territory than the sprawling narratives of their earlier work. Recorded with producer David Barbe, it’s a tighter, more restrained record from a band that had already proven it could go epic.
