Johnny Winter spent the late ’70s chasing hard rock success, but by the time he walked into the studio with Alligator Records founder Bruce Iglauer, he was ready to strip it all back. Recorded with Chicago session veterans who understood exactly where he was coming from, Guitar Slinger put Winter’s scorching Texas slide and stinging single-note runs back where they belonged, and reminded anyone who’d forgotten just how deep his blues DNA ran.

Guitar Slinger – Johnny Winter – Originally released in 1984, this Grammy-nominated album marked Winter’s return to his blues roots, sparking a career renaissance that lasted the rest of his life. Cut with the cream of Chicago bluesmen, it features fan favorites like “Don’t Take Advantage Of Me,” “Trick Bag” and “Boot Hill.”
